Job Description:

WWe will have several positions available at various locations for the 2018 tax season. These are perfect jobs for college students, parents with school aged children, retired individuals, those looking for a second job or anyone that needs a flexible schedule. We are willing to participate in a Coop/Internship program and will work around class schedules and/or current job schedule for all employees. Whether you are able to work 20 hours or 60 hours per week, we have flexible schedules available to accommodate your needs. Becoming a Jackson Hewitt Tax Preparer is a three-step process:

1. Obtain a PTIN (preparer tax identification number) issued directly by the IRS. There is no cost for this and you can easily apply for and obtain a PTIN by visiting www.irs.gov/ptin and register for a PTIN account using information from the last tax return that you filed. Please note you will need your PTIN before you can be registered for tax school. If you need assistance requesting a PTIN, please contact me.

2. Successfully complete the Basic Tax Preparation Course (BTP) or pass the Tax School Aptitude Test (TSAT) which is based on 2017 tax law. The Basic Tax Preparation Course tuition is FREE. This online course allows you to work at your own pace, but still have the support of a knowledgeable instructor with real tax preparation experience ready and eager to help you learn. All of the materials that you will need to complete the course are conveniently available online.

The Basic Tax Preparation Course is a comprehensive course consisting of 26 sessions and should take between 50 to 70 hours to complete, not including lab time or homework. Completion of the course is not a guarantee or offer of employment; however, students who successfully complete the course will be invited to apply for any open positions that we may have in January.

For those with tax preparation experience we offer the TSAT (tax school aptitude test). This assessment is based on 2017 tax year laws and must be taken in a JH office. If you successfully pass this assessment, you may skip the BTP and begin the application process immediately.
