Tax Preparer (Seasonal):Jackson Hewitt Tax Service

Job Description:

We will have several positions available at various locations for the 2020 tax season. These are perfect jobs for college students, parents with school aged children, retired individuals, those looking for a second job or anyone that needs a flexible schedule. We are willing to participate in a Coop/Internship program and will work around class schedules and/or current job schedule for all employees. Whether you are able to work 20 hours or 60 hours per week, we have flexible schedules available to accommodate your needs. No prior tax experience is required, but basic computer and customer service skills are necessary.

Becoming a Jackson Hewitt Tax Preparer is a three-step process:

1. Obtain a PTIN (preparer tax identification number) issued directly by the IRS. There is no cost for this and you can easily apply for and obtain a PTIN by visiting www.irs.gov/ptin and register for a PTIN account using information from the last tax return that you filed. Please note you will need your PTIN before you can be registered for tax school. If you need assistance requesting a PTIN, please contact me.

2. Successfully complete the Fundamentals of Tax Preparation (FTP) course or pass the Tax School Aptitude Test (TSAT) which is based on 2018 tax law. Fundamentals of Tax Preparation (FTP) course is tuition FREE. This online course allows you to work at your own pace, but still have the support of a knowledgeable instructor with real tax preparation experience ready and eager to help you learn. The FTP is a comprehensive course consisting of 11 sessions and should take about 20 hours to complete, not including lab time, homework, the comprehensive review and the exam. Please note the comprehensive review and the exam must be completed in a JH office and all of the materials that you will need to complete the course are conveniently available online.

Completion of the course is not a guarantee or offer of employment; however, students who successfully complete the course will be invited to apply for any open positions that we will have in January.

For those with tax preparation experience we offer the TSAT (tax school aptitude test). This assessment is based on 2018 tax year laws and must be taken in a JH office. If you successfully pass this assessment, you may skip the FTP and begin the application process immediately.

3. Complete the hiring process, which includes a background check and attending START training in December (date, time & location to be announced). This training is about 4 hours, by invitation only and will be paid training if you are hired.

New this fall, you will be able to earn $200 Signing Bonus for completion of the FTP course, if you are hired on and meet the following criteria:
